What does FIBER11 mean?

FIBER11 stands for Fiber Infrastructure for Broadband Enhancement in Region 11. It represents the collaborative fiber network serving ESC Region 11 school districts.

How was the FIBER11 network designed and how does it work?

The FIBER11 network was designed as a carrier-class regional fiber ring with 12 hub sites providing redundant paths. The network uses a hub-and-spoke topology with 100 Gbps backbone connections between hubs, ensuring high availability and low latency for all member districts.

How is the FIBER11 network funded?

FIBER11 is funded through a combination of consortium member contributions, E-Rate discounts, and special construction funding from USAC and the TEA. The collaborative purchasing model provides significant cost savings to all participating districts.

Is my district eligible for FIBER11 services?

FIBER11 maintains a 99.99% uptime SLA for backbone connectivity. Our SLA includes defined response times for service issues and credits for any outages exceeding our commitments.

How am I billed for FIBER11 services?

Districts are billed on a monthly or annual basis depending on their contract terms. Invoices are sent directly to the district’s accounts payable department.

Does FIBER11 host my DNS reverse lookup zones?

Yes, FIBER11 can host reverse DNS zones for member districts. Contact our support team to set up or transfer your reverse DNS delegation.

Can my district connect to another district on FIBER11?

Yes! One of the key benefits of FIBER11 is inter-district connectivity. Districts can establish direct connections for sharing services, disaster recovery, video conferencing, and more.

How much bandwidth does FIBER11 offer? What if I can't do 10 GB?

FIBER11 offers bandwidth options from 1 Gbps to 20 Gbps per circuit. We work with each district to determine the right bandwidth level based on their needs and infrastructure capabilities.

Will FIBER11 host my public DNS zones?

Yes, FIBER11 offers public DNS hosting services for member districts. This provides redundancy and reliable name resolution for your district’s public-facing services.

Does FIBER11 filter my internet traffic?

FIBER11 does not filter internet traffic by default. Districts are responsible for implementing their own content filtering solutions (such as CIPA-compliant filtering). However, we can assist with filtering recommendations and integration.
